Job Description:
The Coordinator of the Nursing Skills Lab will be responsible for Demo Skills Laboratory instruction for the first-year Nursing courses. The Coordinator will also coordinate the activities of the skills laboratory, including: ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies, equipment, and learning resources; ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards; overseeing the maintenance and repair of laboratory and simulation equipment; assisting with budget planning for the Nursing program; supporting faculty with the incorporation of simulation activities into their courses; and working with students on skills remediation. This position includes two evenings per week and occasional Saturday hours.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintain a clean and fully equipped nursing skills and simulation lab; manage the room set-up and clean-up for the demonstration and practice of clinical procedures; ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards.
Oversee the ordering, maintenance, and inventory of all laboratory and simulation equipment and supplies; recommend purchases of lab equipment and supplies; assist with the preparation of the operating budget for the Nursing program.
Prepare skills lab demonstrations and simulated learning activities in coordination with the course coordinator; work closely with faculty to design teaching strategies that enable students to master psychomotor and clinical skills and meet course objectives.
Create a learning environment that enhances students' ability to use conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills; utilize research and literature findings to integrate best practices into lab instruction.
Coordinate and supervise students to ensure that the lab experiences meet course objectives; maintain records of student attendance and skills performance in the laboratory; serve as a resource and mentor for the remediation of high-risk students identified by faculty.
Assist faculty in developing and implementing clinically based scenarios for simulation; run simulation exercises using the high-fidelity simulation manikins.
Work collaboratively with faculty in scheduling the skills and simulation lab; orient new faculty and staff to lab equipment, policies and procedures.
Attend Health Science Education department meetings; assist with events related to the Nursing program; assist with proctoring Nursing exams as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Nursing from an NLNAC, ACEN or CCNE-accredited institution.
Current New Jersey Registered Nursing License.
Minimum of two years' experience in clinical nursing practice in an acute care setting.
Proficient in simulation education utilizing simulation manikins and computer-based scenarios.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard office software applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior teaching experience in a Nursing skills lab.
Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work in a cooperative manner with faculty, students, administrators, staff, and community groups.
