Job Description
Extended School Year - Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
The Sudbury Public School, Extended School Year (ESY) program is a 4 or 7 week Special Education program for students on IEP's to stem substantial regression.
Description
This is a Part or Full-time position for ESY.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Provide exceptional nursing care to students by assessing health status, responding to school nurse and staff’s requests for assistance, and making observations on rounds
Administer first aid, medication, and specialized medical treatments, nursing treatments, procedures, doctor orders, and care plans providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or other students; observe, identify and respond to the needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education
Assess situations involving students' other health related issues, identifying problems, referring for proper treatment, and complying with legal requirements; confer with supervising Registered Nurse (RN) for treatment
Recognize urgent or emergency patient care situations; seek assistance of the RN and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed or needed
Assist special education and/or medically fragile students and other passengers providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations
Monitor students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, or parent ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers
Collaborate with other school personnel to ensure that students' individual care plans are being followed
Establish constructive relationships with students and their families to promote positive relationships and learning as established by the appropriate treatment plan
Documents incidents with or without adverse effect to student and refer to RN for follow-up and/or investigation
Maintain student's confidential files and records providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards
Perform other related duties as required/assigned by School Nurse, Principal or Director(s) of Student Services
SCHEDULE:
8:15am-3:00pm
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of a Practical Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
Applicants must have at least one year of paraprofessional experience in the field of nursing as a licensed practical nurse.
Possession of a current and valid license as a practical nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least one (1) year of experience in the care of patients in a school setting care or two (2) years of child health, community health or other relevant clinical nursing experience.
CPR and First Aid certification by a recognized provider.
Experience with medically fragile or special needs students.
Ability to establish effective relationships with individuals, families, and team members.
Demonstrated attention to detail with readiness to respond appropriately when needed.
Capacity to maintain accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
Skilled in the use of using a computer for completion of work assignments.

Job Requirements
General Terms:
· All staff are required to work all days and hours of the specific program or position.
· All staff must attend an orientation meeting to be scheduled in June.
