Burlington Early Education Program

Burlington School District is seeking a passionate and energetic Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) to join a school committed to high levels of achievement for all students. Primary responsibilities include planning and providing speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Additionally, assessing students and providing therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program. Applicants must be dedicated to the belief and desire for the inclusion of all students, and eager to be a member of a high energy, fast-paced dedicated Early Education team as well as individual student teams in support of student success for all.

The Essential Functions of this position include:

Consult with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals, the needs of the student, and involvement in the remedial process.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.

Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and work more effectively with students with communication deficits.

Assess, screen, and evaluate students and effectively share results with parents and educational staff, and participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance with state and school division requirements and best practice.

Develop and implement individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with Speech/Language impairment and assists with IEPs for students with speech/language as a service on an annual basis or according to requirements.

Provide consultative services for school staff by sharing and demonstrating specific techniques and working with school teams to facilitate relevant and consistent interventions for targeted students.

Maintain records and information concerning individual students in the prescribed confidential manner and using the records and information only for the purposes for which they are maintained according to FERPA guidelines.

Provide direct and consultative therapeutic services related to expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language.

Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community for the purpose of fostering individual student success and growth.

Maintain and submit information/records including student progress for all students

Share with other staff members the responsibility for school activities and student supervision.

Perform related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with school district policies and procedures.

The required education and experience of this position include:

Education:

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Speech-Language Pathology, or related field.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Education or Speech-Language Pathology.

Certification Required: Valid Educator License granted by the Vermont Department of Education with an Educational Speech Language Pathologist Endorsement.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Working knowledge

Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.

General knowledge

Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.

Thorough knowledge

Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.

Comprehensive knowledge

Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.

Specific Skills And/Or Abilities Required:

Knowledge of and skills in administering, scoring and interpreting communication assessments.

Knowledge and understanding of child development and communication development.

Knowledge of and skills in best practice instruction specific to various disabilities.

Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior.

Skills in data analysis to assess, monitor, and inform instruction for student growth.

Skills and abilities in organization, time management, and record keeping.

Ability to operate a computer and the skills to learn and utilize software and other technology in instruction.

Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other professionals in a team setting.

Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

The following are Required:

Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.

Endorsement as an SLP or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.

Currently qualified or eligible for CCC.

Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Qualifications:

SLP experience

Experience with Intensive Needs children

Knowledge of research/evidenced based academic interventions

Current knowledge and experience with Speech and Language assessments

Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring)

Preferred Attributes:

Evidence of integrating technology into the learning environment

Experience with birth to 6 yr children

Training and/or experience with English Language Learners

Experience in inclusive settings

Experience with teaming with early childhood teachers and/or early childhood special educators

Experience with Supervision/Consultation

SALARY:

As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
