The Research Consulting Lead performs basic observational and experimental scientific, technological, health economics and outcomes investigation directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge and to guide business decisions. The Research Consulting Lead works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.

Through the design and implementation of various types of research studies and the strategic interpretation of data, we provide Humana and our external research partners with meaningful real-life insights about healthcare utilization and costs, patterns of medication use, health outcomes, disease burden and beyond. The Research Consulting Lead provides expert guidance around study design, research methodology, analyses and interpretation of results. Acts as principal investigator, leading the study team from study inception to dissemination of research results. Prepares comprehensive documents including study protocols, technical reports, executive summaries, and presentations to communicate the study research findings. Publishes research results, in peer reviewed publications and presents same at appropriate scientific conferences and forums. Documents research leading to patent disclosure or technical and/or scientific advancement. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision, Uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.
The main day-to-day responsibilities of the Research Consulting Lead include:
Identifying and understanding business and clinical issues to map these issues into research questions.
Designing scientifically valid studies to answer relevant questions.
Overseeing the development of statements of work and study protocols for business owners/research partners/clients, ensuring that studies are designed in a feasible, scientifically sound, and most cost effective manner.
Overseeing the implementation of projects that involve retrospective data analysis, primary data collection, mixed methods, prospective observational, interventional healthcare outcomes studies from inception to completion.
Reporting results for studies through presentations, abstracts and publications.
Communicating insights and analytical findings to a broad range of audiences.
Mentoring other research professionals in extensive projects or programs.
Working collaboratively with the Director of External Health Economics & Outcomes Research in business development by delivering advanced capability presentations to potential partners/clients, and generating new research business opportunities for HHR.
Assisting the Director of External Health Economics & Outcomes Research with strategic planning and infrastructure development activities.
Assisting the Director of Research Consulting/Research Consulting Principal on staff recruitment.
10% travel may be required once covid restrictions are lifted
Required Qualifications
Healthcare / research-oriented degree [e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD or Master's degree in public health, health economics & outcomes research, epidemiology, biostatistics]
7 or more years of research experience
2 or more years of project leadership experience
In-depth understanding of healthcare research methodology and experience conducting healthcare research
Experience leading cross functional teams working on healthcare research projects
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
PhD degree in public health, health economics & outcomes research, epidemiology or equivalent
Prior work experience in healthcare research using primary data (e.g. survey data) and secondary data (e.g. administrative claims data) within the managed care industry, pharmaceutical industry, a healthcare research organization
