This position is located in the Virginia Mason downtown Seattle location
The WOCN RN provides acute and rehabilitative care for patients with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems. The WOCN RN is responsible for providing direct care to patients with abdominal stomas, wounds, fistulas, drains, pressure ulcers, and continence disorders. This role provides technical and professional expertise in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients with wound, ostomy and continence care needs. For patients diagnosed with a medical condition that results in a stoma, the WOCN RN role is charged with performing an in-depth assessment of the patient and identifying the optimal position of the ostomy with subsequent pre-surgical marking of the patient. The WOCN RN role plays a pivotal role in the guidance of patient care in multiple healthcare settings, both inpatient and outpatient.
The WOCN RN is a dual position of technical expertise and educator in 1) providing direct wound and ostomy care and education to patients along the spectrum of healthcare from inpatient to outpatient and 2) maximizing patient health while minimizing long-range costs incurred by patients with selected disorders resulting in a stoma or wound 3) maximizing functional status for individuals with life-changing health conditions requiring an ostomy.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develops, facilitates and coordinates a cost effective ostomy wound care program.
Develops Protocols & Practice Standards for managing patients with wound ostomy and incontinence care needs.
Serves as resource person for Wound, Ostomy Care patient care practices within the organization.
Provides expert consultation and/or hands-on care for individual patients with acute or chronic wounds.
Establish/coordinate multi-disciplinary, comprehensive management plans for patients with ostomy and/or wound care needs.
Performs conservative sharp instrumental wound debridement of devitalized tissue and chemical cauterization per physician order
Coordinates care for populations of patients, identifying trends, and developing standardized prevention and treatment protocols and refining protocols based on outcomes.
Provides expert consultation for individual patients undergoing surgical placement of ostomy, including surgical marking.
Advocates for patients with skin and wound care needs.
Develops and implements educational tools for patients, staff, and other health care providers.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing
WOCN certification as a Wound Ostomy Nurse and 2 years of experience in a WOCN role are required for the position.
High level of understanding of patient care continuum including ambulatory and inpatient areas.
Technical expertise in wound and ostomy care including pressure injury prevention reporting also required.
MSN and 3 years of experience in a WOCN role is preferred.
This position will require the RN to work (2) 8-hour shifts and (2) 10-hour shifts per week
