Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

join their team. This is a professional position in which the incumbent provides patient care for students within the University community ranging from adolescent to elderly. The incumbent works collaboratively with the CHC treatment team to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, interpret test results, provide patient education, prepare medical records and refer patients for inpatient care in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director of Curry Health Center. This is a 0.8 position during Fall and Spring semesters, with variable work during Summer semester. The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner does not work when school is not in session, i.e. spring break, winter holiday break, etc.

Upon completion of training, the incumbent will have working knowledge of Medicat (electronic health record), and familiarity with community resources for in-patient and out-patient psychiatric care as well as counseling.

Required Skills

Psychiatric Assessment: The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner regularly conducts psychiatric assessments including mental status evaluations, developmental and medical histories, relevant observations, including review of pertinent medical and psychiatric findings from other providers. Assessments generate DSM 5 diagnoses. Requires familiarity with general medical diagnoses and ICD classifications. Treatment plans are generated.

Pharmacotherapy: In accordance with psychiatric assessment the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner prescribes medications for the management of psychiatric distress. Patients are followed as needed. Treatment is coordinated with other key care providers in Curry Health Center Counseling Services, Curry Health Center Medical Services, and elsewhere in the community.

Consultation: The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is available to consult with CHC staff members to assist them in the management of patient psychiatric needs that do not require formal treatment by a psychiatrist. As a resource person, they may provide formal in-service training for CHC providers.

Proficient in the use of an electronic health record including electronic prescribing.

Minimum Required Experience

Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified.

Licensed in the state of Montana to practice medicine by date of hire.

Three (3) years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred recent experience providing care for college age patients.

Passion for providing medical care for college age students.

Skilled in the use of an electronic health record and is able to use that tool in a proactive way for communication and for delivery of health care.

Comfortable with emerging technology and with the ever-evolving delivery of medical care and continuously strives for ways to deliver excellent health care effectively, affordably, and conveniently to students.

Ability to be flexible with respect to scheduling.
