JOB SUMMARY

THIS 20 BED PCU SPECIALIZES IN THE CARE OF NEURO/TRAUMA SURGERY AND IS THE SECONDARY STROKE UNIT FOR HEMORRHAGIC STROKE PATIENTS. FOUR BEDS IN THIS UNIT ARE DECIDED FOR AN EPILEPSY MONITORING UNIT AND TWO BEDS ARE EQUIPPED FOR CHRONIC VENTILATOR PATIENTS.

 

This position is full time, working the day/evening/night shift with every other weekend and rotating holidays

 

 

The Mobility Aide performs individualized activity plan of maintenance walking.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

*Engages in effective communication with nursing staff to process the patient's status information to determine if activity plan would be considered contraindicated.  Demonstrates verbal understanding of hand-off activity plan and participates in mobilization of patient.  Utilizes observation skills to determine if patient displays a change in status and reports findings to supervising nurse. *Performs vital signs including blood pressure, pulse and oxygen level before activity begins.  Incorporates monitoring equipment during activity session as instructed by supervising nurse. *Documents in patient's medical record using daily note format.  Documentation includes reporting activity, patient comments and/or actions and vital signs. *Initiates coordination / schedules mobility plan with nursing to allow successful completion of activity sessions.  Utilizes knowledge of patient's schedule such as dialysis, tests and procedures when coordinating mobility plan. *Executes effective time management skills by utilizing walking list, self-scheduling effectively, and meeting productivity expectations. *Serves as a resource and teammate to new mobility aide employees. *Participates in QA programs related to function.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent education required.

Experience: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Licensure, certifications, and/or registration: CNA Certification from the State of Virginia preferred. AHA BLS-HCP required.

Other Minimum Qualifications:  Completes hospital orientation and yearly requirements for performance evaluation.  Completes Unit orientation and Mobility competencies and maintains annual competencies.  Good interpersonal skills and effective communication.  Ability to work in a fast paced and often changing healthcare environment.  Basic knowledge of computer skills to perform data entry for changes and /or completing of activity plan.
