Description:

Based in the Faculty of Health, the School of Psychology is one of the largest and best-resourced psychology departments in the UK. Covering all areas of psychology, the School shares its expertise and enthusiasm for psychology with over 800 students and offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, all accredited by the British Psychological Society. Graduates go on to pursue a wide range of careers after studying their first degree. Whether continuing studying for a further degree or looking for employment straight away, our emphasis on employability will put our students ahead of other graduates. Plymouth is a centre of excellence in psychological research. In the last Research Excellence Framework assessment over 80% of our research outputs were rated as either of international (3*) or world-leading (4*) quality – in the top 20 nationally on this measure. The School holds an Athena SWAN Bronze award in recognition of a commitment to improving gender equality demonstrating the University’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality and success for all. We are recruiting Clinical Tutors to support expansion in commissioned training numbers on the DClinPsych programme. Clinical tutors play a crucial role in supporting the development of clinical psychology trainees across the three years of the programme through planning and monitoring clinical placements, providing advice and support to trainees and supervisors. The role involves building relationships with trainees and supervisors across the full range of clinical service within a specified part of our placement area which covers South Devon, Plymouth, & Cornwall. Contribution to other aspects of programme delivery will also include teaching, assessment, and research supervision. There may also be opportunities to contribute to teaching and research within the broader school A significant proportion of the role can be undertaken through home working, and regular team meetings are held remotely. However, there is a requirement to undertake in-person placements visits within a defined placement area and to attend some in-person meetings and events. The Plymouth Clinical Psychology programme has been providing high-quality clinical psychology training in the South West for the past 40 years and was the first programme to adopt a doctoral training model. The programme is committed to values-based practice; working with compassion, courage and creativity, in partnership with service users and communities to promote social inclusion, diversity, equality and health for all. The programme has longstanding strengths in systemic approaches and is currently working towards BABCP accreditation in CBT, we also have a flourishing programme of community psychology placements. The programme benefits from being part of the School of Psychology within a large Faculty of Health which also provides medical, dental, general, and mental health nursing, social work, and seven different allied health professions training. The University recently created a centre to facilitate interprofessional learning across the Faculty. Not only is this a great job, in a great organization, but it is also in a beautiful location, with excellent opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as cycling, climbing, hiking and kayaking as well as sailing, surfing diving and other marine activities. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact David Murphy: by email at david.murphy@plymouth.ac.uk This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus Adult and Children Barred List checks.
