The Echocardiogram Sonographer performs advanced administrative/operational/customer support duties that require independent initiative and judgment. May apply intermediate mathematical skills.
Responsibilities
Description
The Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Responsible for equipment maintenance, reporting equipment malfunctions and quality assessment. The sonographer maintains a high level of professionalism in standard of care, patient contact, patient confidentiality and a high standard of medical ethics. The sonographer will be self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, diseases and new procedures as they evolve.
Responsibilities:
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations for requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the provider(s). Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings. Addresses problems with patients as they arise and makes decisions appropriately to resolve the problems. Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate provider. Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring provider(s) when required, according to established procedures. Assists in coordination of work schedule with leader to assure workload coverage with maximizing schedule(s). Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care. Maintains ultrasound equipment, work area and adequate supplies. Reports equipment failures to the appropriate leader. Participates in the maintenance of any laboratory accreditation. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships with good rapport with all interrelating facilities. Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided. Provide in-service to other staff members as requested by management. Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of a formal and accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment.
Ability to evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information.
Ability to integrate diagnostic sonograms, lab results, patient history and medical records and adapt sonographic examination if necessary.
Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
Ability to evaluate and clearly communicate diagnostic information to the physician.
Ability to follow established departmental procedures.
Additional Information
This position will initially support four locations in Anderson, Greenville, Greer and Powdersville. There is the high potential for additional expansion into Seneca and Spartanburg, resulting in modification to the rotating location schedule.
