General Summary:

The Director Wound Care Services is responsible for the delivery of wound-related patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all inpatients seen in the wound care program. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall clinical practice including fiscal, material, and human resource management. The Director of Wound Care Services acts as a clinical and administrative resource to physicians, administrators, other Wound Care staff, and others as required ensuring efficient organization and department operations. Participates in the development of policies and procedures for the department. The Director of Wound Care Services is responsible for oversight of Wound Care programs. The Director is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital.

Patient Population:

Delivers direct patient care appropriate to the patients served. The ages of the patients served are adult (18-65 years of age) and geriatric (65 and older) populations.

Essential Job Funtions:

Responsible for the oversight of all clinical and administrative functions in the inpatient wound service and also fiscal and regulatory functions of the Wound Care program.

Works with the Wound Care physicians to provide a comprehensive treatment program for patients, addresses patient issues, and works through all patient/employee-related matters for wound care services.

Educates referring providers to purpose, function, and realistic expectations of the wound care program. Educates nursing personnel on Wound Care techniques and skills.

Coordinates and revises present wound services by planning, developing, and implementing new service programming compatible with program and hospital goals.

Develops appropriate protocols and objectives for programs exhibiting knowledge of the programs by communicating needed information and/or referring requests for information to appropriate sources.

Provides leadership in the development of performance standards for employees. Evaluates and counsels employees on their performance. Plans and develops educational in-services for the department.

Performs all tasks associated with the hospital’s quality reporting requirements, to include gathering and tracking relevant quality data and outcomes, inputting data into appropriate systems, filling reports with various agencies, and following up to ensure all quality-related reports are filed correctly and in a timely fashion.

Provides, delegates, and/or assists with others in delivering Wound Care services. Assists in providing operational oversight for Wound Care programs as a resource and field content expert.

Assists in training and onboarding of new Wound Care personnel. Educates and validates the competency of Wound Care staff.

Supports Hospital CEO in assessing department performance issues and participates in providing direction and feedback on department/corporate initiatives to support roll out of wound care program.

The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position requirements are demonstrated through the successful completion of competencies established for the position, to include population served and other special needs of patients or customers, served by the department.

Adheres to LifeCare policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.

Regular attendance and timeliness is required.

Requirements

Supervision:

Directs the functions and employees of Wound Care program.

Experience:

Three to five years’ experience working in Wound Care. Three to five years management experience preferred.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, or combination of an Associate’s degree in an approved Registered Nurse program and meaningful and appropriate experience. Master’s degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in state where currently practicing. Board certification as a CWS or WOCN or fulfillment of CWS or WOCN requirements within 6 months of hire into this role. Current BLS certification is required upon hire. Must maintain current licensure and BLS certifications while employed with LifeCare Hospitals.
