Responsibilities

Implement and supervise physical exercise programs for patients.

Provide patient testing and assessment before and after rehabilitation.

Plan and teach exercise therapy for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen. Monitor patient's response and revise plan accordingly.

Recognize contradications and abnormal patient responses to exercise. Respond appropriately to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.

Provide exercise information for patients, peers and the community which may include public speaking and education classes.

Ensure department equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and functioning correctly. Prepare, develop, and maintain various files, record, report; schedule patient appointments as required.

Provide oversight to department activities in the absence of the manager.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Athletic Trainer credentialed from the Indiana Athletic Trainers Board preferred.

Certification specializing in Sports Medicine preferred.

Exercise Physiologist credentialed from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) preferred.

Education:

Bachelors degree required.

Masters degree preferred.

Additional Preferences

This position is generally M-F, 7:15-3:45 with a 30-minute lunch break.

There may be a weekend shift requirements.

Fast-paced environment working with several/many surgical guests in a day and educating them throughout their stay at the ASTV Heart Center.

Exercise Physiologists will walk & educate our open heart surgery guests beginning with post op day one.

Be prepared to work with the guest and There is a lot of equipment to transport when getting these guests up and moving for the first time after surgery.

The exercise physiologist uses a gait belt with the guest to get them moving or walk them for the first time after surgery.

The Exercise Physiologist will also carry/transport the IV pumps and monitors while walking the guest and determines how far the guest should walk based on the monitor and the guests response to ambulation. Exercise Physiologists may also see heart attack/stent guests and do education with them as well.

The Exercise Physiologist may also occasionally see heart failure guests and any other patient that has an order for phase I CR.
