Job Summary and Scope
Perform diagnostic cardiac vascular and noninvasive tests of arterial, venous and cerebrovascular systems. Technician will also perform ultrasound examinations, to include Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE) exams, echocardiograms for subsequent review by a Cardiologist and treatment by an attending physician. Instruct patients on usage of monitoring equipment. Ensure adherence to hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include adult and geriatric age groups.
Essential Functions:
POLICIES, PROCEDURES AND GUIDELINES- Maintain established hospital as well as departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
PATIENT SAFETY - Report potential and actual patient safety, concerns, medical errors and or near misses in a timely manner thru the chain of command and document within the PSN system.
PATIENT CARE - Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional psychological and spiritual support to patient, friends and families.
PATIENT CARE - Promote patient’s independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient, friends, identified ley caregiver and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
TEAMWORK - Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams and resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
COMPLIANCE - Active participation in hospital strategic initiatives such as quality improvement and monitoring TJC compliance.
Obtain test and patient information from patient requisition forms. Perform cardiac ultrasound techniques and procedures including transesophageal, stress echocardiograms and holter monitors.submit test results in Xcelera for provider interpretation. Provide direct patient care services to inpatient and outpatient; participate in on-call services as required.
Assess arterial pulses, bruits and other specific vascular physical exam parameters and noninvasive studies of peripheral, abdominal, cerebrovascular blood flow according to established vascular protocols.
Participate in the quality improvement process including planning, data collection, data review and implementation of resulting recommendations.
Coordinate departmental schedule with consideration to priority of medical indications, equipment and staff availability.
Maintain equipment, stock supplies and transport patients as needed.
Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don’t understand or may “Not seem right”.
Participate in orientation, and having successfully completed preceptor training, assume precepting, orientation and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel
Use emergency resuscitation equipment, maintain crash cart, echo equipment and run treadmill equipment, etc.
Answer phones, receive event recorder transmissions, deliver test results, perform quality assurance reports for all diagnostic procedures and complete patient billing
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for series, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
Knowledge of electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications

Education/Experience
Education:
Associate Degree in related field
Licenses / Certifications:
CPR Certification for healthcare Providers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position
Must obtain one of the following within one (1) year of date of position hire:
o
(ARDMS) American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography or,
o
(CCI/RCS) Cardiovascular Credentialing International Registered Cardiac Sonography
Work Experience:
3 year clinical experience in ambulatory setting of relevance
Preferred Educational/Experience Requirements:
Associate Degree in Biomedical Sciences;
Two (2) years echocardiography work experience;
Bilingual English / Spanish preferred
Supervision
Job is not supervisory in nature.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check, reference checks and a post offer drug screen.
Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).

Working Conditions
Typical office and/or patient care, acute care hospital environment.
Must be able to travel locally between facilities and within the surrounding community.
Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne / airborne disease.
