Job Title: Lead Mammography Technologist FLSA Status: Non-exemptDepartment: RadiologyReports To: Radiology Practice Manager
General Summary \/ Overview Statement: Under the supervision of the Radiology Practice Manager and\/or Clinical Supervisor. and according to established procedures, coordinates the activities of the Mammography section, of the Radiology Imaging Department and its technologists. Functions as a lead resource person providing technical guidance and instruction necessary for the efficient operation of the unit and patient care. Regularly performs all the functions of a mammographer.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: \u2022 Demonstrates competency in performing mammograms. \u2022 Demonstrates competency provides documentation of competency and education for new staff.\u2022 Assists in maintaining department records as required to remain in compliance with State\/FDA requirements and ACR guidelines.\u2022 Reviews radiology imaging requisition for required information to perform examinations. Calls appropriate personnel to review discrepancies. \u2022 Properly identifies and prepares patients for examinations, answers questions and\/or refers to other appropriate personnel.\u2022 Follows HIPAA standards to maintain patient privacy and disclosure of protected patient information.\u2022 Relies on knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes to properly and safely scan the patient to obtain high quality images.\u2022 Applies ALARA principles to patient, self and other associates.\u2022 Obtains quality diagnostic images \u2022 Evaluates and counsels personnel regarding work performance.\u2022 Maintains equipment in good working order through monitoring of preventative maintenance plan. Contacts repair service as necessary. \u2022 Demonstrates competency in all RIS applications.\u2022 Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift. \u2022 Actively participates in daily huddles and problem solving.\u2022 Updates patients and families on estimated wait times in the Radiology Department. Remains visible and proactive in meeting patient's needs.\u2022 Contributes to other areas in the department as requested.\u2022 In conjunction with the Radiology Practice Manager provides daily supervision for personnel including standardization and distribution of work load. \u2022 Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities: \u2022 Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology. \u2022 Licensed as a Radiological Technologist from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT). \u2022 Licensed to practice in Massachusetts. \u2022 At least three years' experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferably advanced DEXA certification\u2022 Current BLS certification \u2022 In compliance with ARRT continuing education\u2022 Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately and professionally with all types of patients as well as associates.
