Position: Pharmacist / Supply Chain
Operations
Location: Shared Services Center / Durham
Hours: Full Time, 40 hrs/wk; Days; Hours of Operation 6:30am-5:00pm with some shift
variability. Will require weekends; may require evenings for future
business needs.
1. Provides care of patients by optimizing medication use and drug distribution
services. Complies with all federal, state and health-system policies for drug
distribution. Compounds and dispenses medications using prescriptions (orders)
authorized by a physician. Orders medications and supplies from
distributors/wholesalers as needed. Optimally fills medication orders to health
system customers in a timely fashion. Complies with pharmacy contract
purchasing and 340B usage/purchasing guidance. Ensures compliance with DSCSA
requirements for drug distribution and tracking.
2. Optimally verifies medications (prescriptions) to customers. Minimizes
unnecessary drug use / expense. Verifies drug, strength, dosage form, packaging
requirements, integrity, and appropriate storage of each medication prior to
dispensing.
3. Maintains competencies in sterile and nonsterile compounding and compliance
with USP <797>, USP <800> or other regulatory statutes. Maintains
competencies in inventory management software solutions and systems.
4. Directs workflow of the shift and supervises pharmacy technicians, students,
volunteers present during that shift. Consistently provides direction and
feedback to staff in his/her charge to facilitate accurate and proficient
completion of all work. Assigns tasks, sets priorities, and makes adjustments
throughout the work day to optimize work flow and service.
5. Consistently ensures that required
maintenance tasks for optimal functioning of the pharmacy are completed in a
timely manner. Ensures completion of all work / tasks in accordance with
expectations for the shift. Communicates issues, problems, or other important
information for continuity in operations to the next shift. Takes the lead in
addressing problems / complaints brought to his/her attention. Keeps manager
informed, as appropriate.
6. Serves as a preceptor to various learners.
7. Completes other duties and projects as requested by the Clinical Manager,
Pharmacy Supply Management.
