NURSE PRACTITIONER -or- PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
Department of Radiology – Interventional Radiology
The College of Medicine, Department of Radiology is looking for two (2) Mid-Level Provider to provide outpatient and/or inpatient support in collaboration physicians and healthcare providers at West Chester Hospital (WCH) with rotations at University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC). This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.
Job Duties: Work activities to be performed in collaboration with Interventional Radiology physicians and healthcare providers in the Department of Radiology
*Understand the indications, alternatives, risks and steps of IR procedures in order to provide this information to patients, family members, referring physicians, physician offices and other healthcare providers *Perform history and physical examinations prior to IR procedures performed by PA/NP and members of the Department of Radiology *Perform informed consent for IR procedures for outpatient and inpatients *Perform pre-procedure and post-procedure IR orders *Perform admitting history and physical and orders for inpatients admitted to the IR service *Provide medication reconciliation, prescribing and discharge for patients undergoing outpatients IR procedures *Make rounds on inpatients following IR procedures and other patients as scheduled *Provide discharge day care for patients receiving inpatient/observational care on the IR service *Answer telephone calls from patients regarding IR procedures *Perform evaluation of new inpatient IR procedure requests/consultations with IR physicians *Screen and evaluate new outpatient IR procedure requests/referrals with IR physicians *Evaluate and coordinate outpatient and inpatient IR procedure requests and address peri-procedural medical and scheduling issues. Communicate with requesting providers, IR physicians, IR technologist coordinator, and IR scheduler during the workday. In IR cases involving complex interactions between other services (e.g., Anesthesia, Gastroenterology, Transplant Surgery) facilitate communication and coordination of activities. *Perform follow up outpatient visits on patients who have previously underwent IR procedures and see patients in clinic when needed. *Become knowledgeable in Epic in regards to IR, such as the use of the Status Board and assisting rotating IR resident physicians in on boarding to our workflow. *Participate in IR section quality safety program (biopsy follow-up, Morbidity & Mortality maintenance) *Attend monthly IR Morbidity & Mortality Conferences, prepare/submit material as directed *Assist the IR physician in a fluoroscopic procedure, as needed *Protocoling outpatient consults *Enter procedures into the IR database *Work on establishing a quality improvement process and implementing it. APP to keep track of these quality improvement projects and present results quarterly. Perform the following procedures with image guidance:
*Paracentesis *Thoracentesis *Abscessogram/drainage catheter study *Upper extremity venogram *Non-tunneled central venous catheter placement, including internal jugular, subclavian and arm PICCs *Tunneled central venous catheter (PowerLine) placement *Chest port placement *Tunneled central venous hemodialysis catheter placement
Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner:
Current/valid RN license to practice in the state of Ohio. A Master's degree in Nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program. Three (3) years nursing experience.
Full prescriptive authority, including controlled substances
Experience in interventional radiology
Experience in Epic electronic health record system
ACLS certification will be required
Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant:
Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Current/Valid license in the state of Ohio prior to start.
Full prescriptive authority, including controlled substances
Experience in interventional radiology
Experience in Epic electronic health record system
ACLS certification will be required
