Position Summary:

This is a working supervisory position with technical, administrative and operational responsibilities for all staff and functions relating to centralized phlebotomy support and inpatient processing at Mary Bridge and Tacoma General to include the receipt, accessioning, handling, processing collecting and distribution of laboratory specimens. The incumbent provides leadership to the work of Processing and Phlebotomy staff with 24/7 operations, based in the Core Laboratory and dispersed amongst the floors. Independent judgment in decision-making and leadership are required to coordinate a wide variety of laboratory operations. This front line position provides leadership to the work of up to 40 staff in the Core Laboratory. These positions provide coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. This position works closely with Laboratories Northwest departments, Client Services, ComLab staff, and all clinical departments at TG and MB. Work situations require leadership skills with the ability to evaluate work through reports, verbal presentations, and daily observation of assigned tasks and responsibilities. Internal contacts are basically within the work group, but also include laboratory staff, section managers, supervisors and other healthcare providers. External contacts include physicians, nurses, clinical staff, nursing leadership, and outside organizations and labs.

Minimum Requirements:

2 – 3 years recent supervisory experience

Recent experience in a high-volume laboratory specimen management department

Recent phlebotomy experience in a high-volume acute care facility

Experience with customer service training a plus

Education/Licenses/Certifications:

MLT(ASCP), MT(ASCP), or PBT(ASCP) preferred

BS degree with minimum of 3 years relevant laboratory experience required. A combination of education, minimum of 5 years prior lab experience, and previous management experience may be considered in lieu of degree provided the individual commits to pursuing and completing the degree requirement.

Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy (MA-P) certification

$10,000 Sign on Bonus eligible for external candidates only with a 2 year commitment
