The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology-Oncology is recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.
Job Summary: Under general supervision from a designated administrator, assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in the area of malignant hematology with a primary focus in bone marrow transplant. The individual will provide patient/family education and will be expected to participate in teaching activities for students, residents and fellows.
NURSE PRACTITIONER:
Responsibilities include:
*Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of bone marrow transplant patients *Conduct basic physical and psychosocial assessment of the individual and/or family. Assist physicians and other providers in delivery of care *Discriminate between normal conditions and normal and abnormal deviations by specific screening and tests. Refer patients with abnormal findings to physicians *Manage common episodic and chronic illnesses and administer medication and treatments as prescribed. Obtain treatment consents as needed *Provide counseling and health training *Maintain accurate records *Participate in research and development projects *Order supplies as necessary; stock and maintain rooms *Perform related duties based on departmental need
Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner:
*Current/valid RN license to practice in the state of Ohio with prescriptive authority prior to start *A Master's degree in nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program *At least three (3) years nursing experience
Ideal Qualifications:
*At least 2-3 years of experience working and treating patients with malignant hematology related health issues *Related experience with CAR T-cell therapy is preferred *Comfortable with conducting shared medical appointments *Comfortable with public speaking and presenting in front of large groups *Individual should enjoy being part of multi-disciplinary team
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT:
Responsibilities include:
*Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician *Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient's record; write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient *Carry out therapeutic procedures; monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress. Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician; prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions; *May make work assignments for assigned nursing and technical personnel; review the work of lower rated employees; train new personnel *Participate in teaching medical students and physician assistant students in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein *Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant:
*Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies; *Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. *Current/valid PA license to practice in the state of Ohio.
*A minimum of one year PA experience.
