*Basic knowledge of instrumentations. *Establish/Maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment. *Demonstrates correct and safe instrumentation passing. *Participants in surgical counts (sponge, needle and instruments), per policy *Adheres to Policy and Procedures, all regulatory standards and Patient Safety Goals. *Participates in the nursing process for patients of all ages served. *Participates in unit educational activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School graduate required. Graduate of approved Surgical Technology Program. Eligible to register as a Surgical Technologist with the VA Department of Health Professions required. Provide to the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor one of the two following documents: A current credential as a certified surgical technologist; or Successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during the applicant's service as a member any branch of the armed forces of the United States.

EXPERIENCE: None required.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: AHA-BLS-HCP certification from the American Heart Association is required. Virginia Department of Health Professions registry required. Certification required.

OTHER: Satisfactory completion of structured orientation program.
