The Clinical Coordinator practicing within the Patient and Family Centered Care Model will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients, coordinate ancillary staff and collaborate with the interdisciplinary health care team.

Labor and Delivery is comprised of 9 LDRs, 6 Maternal Fetal Medicine beds, 1 observation room, 2 OR suites and a 2 bed recovery room. Our patient population includes the care of patients within childbearing years from adolescence to mature adulthood. We provide diagnostic evaluation and treatment of pregnancy related conditions as well as a multitude of medical conditions for our high risk antepartum patients and our intrapartum patients starting at 15 weeks to full term and pre term and treatment of underlying maternal medical disease. In addition to our inpatients we also care for a considerable number of outpatients who require NSTs or extended observational care. Our nurse patient ratio is 1:2 until second stage which is 1:1, for antepartum patient ratios are 1:3 dependent on acuity. Our shifts are 7:00am-7:30 pm and 7:00pm-7:30am. Our care team consists of Nurse Clinicians, Physicians, Surgical Techs, Obstetrical Resource Assistants, Business Associates and a dedicated housekeeping staff as well as Neonatology and Perinatology support and a dedicated Patient Safety Nurse covering L&D and NICU. We perform approximately 240 births per month. All of our physicians are private practice and we have an in house Hospitalist coverage 24/7. We are dedicated to providing high quality family-centered care working collaboratively with all of our Women’s and Children’s Services.

7.1 Identifies knowledge or practice deficits among the staff through direct observation. Works with Nurse Manager and the Education Department to provide unit based educational programs to meet these needs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

BSN or actively matriculating for a BSN or Bachelor Degree with Nursing certification.

EXPERIENCE

5 years of experience

LICENSURE

CT Registered Nurse; Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, NRP, EFM certified.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Supervises work. Is a team leader. Oversees documentation and Performance Improvement Initiatives. Assists Nurse Manager with staffing, budgeting compliance and providing for staff educational needs. Demonstrates service excellence and is a role model for staff.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Standing, walking, frequently pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting and working in awkward positions. Able to help lift objects and patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds. Moderate stress from coordinating and supervising unit staff. May be exposed to infectious diseases/blood/body fluids. Will be exposed to physical, mental and emotional illness as well as end of life conditions and death. Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care.
