The Oncology Clinical Informatics coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of CIS applications in the Smilow Cancer Hospital. The incumbent will manage the planning, development, implementation, training, and quality monitoring of all provider, nursing and ancillary components of the Electronic Medical Record and clinical systems projects. Coordinates and facilitates communications with the areas that interface with clinical services. This position is critical in ensuring coordination and collaboration with IT project managers, faculty, nursing staff and Pharmacy in implementing electronic medical records and ensuring that patient care information is available and accessible in a safe and effective manner.
Work in collaboration with Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) to develop and execute division-wide strategies that leverage technology and advance the efficiency and accuracy of clinical practice and patient care.

1. Serves as Oncology clinical resource leader in planning and development of projects and timelines.
2. Coordinate and participate in aspects of systems analysis, planning, design, development, and testing of clinical information systems (CIS) to develop clinical and nursing documentation and processes. Ensure clinical processes are accurately reflected and supported.
3. Assure ongoing accreditation and regulatory compliance (JCAHO, DPH, etc.) in an environment that promotes patient safety.
4. Works with Nursing, Pharmancy and Physician leadership to determine priorities and clinical point persons/resources
5. Organizes multidisciplinary work groups to develop order sets and care pathways for the EMR. Perform complex analyses of current processes and new technologies to assist in the transformation of clinical practice and delivery of patient care.
6. Ensure development of automated clinical documentation that effectively balances users' requirements and system functionality with safe and efficient workflow.
7. Ensures prompt development and build of order sets into the system, ensuring coordination with lab, pharmacy and applicable ancillary systems.
8. Works with Clinical Trials office and Investigational Drug Service to prospectively develop order sets for new protocols; ensures activation of these order sets concurrent with protocol activation.
9. Develop and organize educational training programs to ensure the proficiency within the clinical areas. Develop plan and implement plan to provide active support to end users.
10. Develop and maintain reports and analyze data to identify opportunities for improving practice. Engage staff /clinicians in formulating and implementing recommendations for improvement.
11. Ensures organization and implementation of systems and order pathways is consistent with best practices and clinical policies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of nursing/pharmacy practices, JCAHO standards, healthcare issues and trends, and the legal implications of the CIS and participates in research related to CIS.
12. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in the field of oncology and healthcare informatics, as well as new developments in the hardware and soft ware technology.
13. Establishes on going communication with care providers.
14. Regularly reviews order sets to ensure they are current and reflect practice.
15. Maintain Via clinical pathways and work with Beacon team for changes to build of pathways. Willow builds and updates
16. Generate beacon, willow and business objectives reports for utilization and quality and safety metrics
Qualifications
EDUCATION
BSN or RPh required, Pharm. D., or Masters Degree in appropriate field preferred.
EXPERIENCE
experienced clinician in Oncology practice, either in Oncology Nursing or Pharmacy strongly preferred
LICENSURE
Relevant certification preferred
SPECIAL SKILLS
Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications, EMR. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Capable of relating to diverse age and demographic backgrounds.
Organizational ability sufficient to plan and control activities of clinical and technical personnel.
Professional and technical knowledge sufficient to perform analysis of, make recommendations on, and to support information systems, technologies and services. Demonstrate diplomacy, tact and a professional demeanor. Possess organization, analysis, supervision and prioritization abilities.
