A registered professional nurse who is responsible for the planning and devlopement of patient care and quality. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Responsible for the initiating and planning strategies for patient care based on best practice and clinical evidence

1.1 Demonstrates advanced knowledge of current trends in clinical practice and departmental policy/procedure and is able to relate such to automated information flow as evidenced by oral and/or written communication.

2. Advanced knowledge and understanding of the need to utilize and promote coordiantion with ancillary services to provide quality care for the patient and ensure services needed to promote and support staff on the units.

2.1 Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the use, content, and purpose of the Nursing Information System as evidenced by direct observation and oral presentations.

3. Consistently reports on the progress of the development, implementation, evaluation, and education of inititatives whcih promote a healing and healthy environment

3.1 Provides knowledge and understanding to impact process planning related to quality matrices in accordance with evidence based practice in collaboration with clinical managers and Chairman and system leadership.

4. Knowlegable of policy and procedures, able to give feedback and input to direct care and quality for the patient and staff

4.1 Demonstrates the ability to identify, develop, evaluated and revise selected policies and procedures according to established guidelines as evidenced by periodic supervisory review of policies and procedures. Working collaboratively with Physician Chairman, Medical Directors, Nursing Leadership and Staff.

5. Demonstrates advanced professional interpersonal relationships and leadership skills.

5.1 Chairs selected hospital and nursing committees to promote quality and safety for patients, nursing and physicians.

6. Supervises and supports personnel in the development and implementation of organizational goals

6.1 Identifies development and learning needs of staff and seeks appropriate resources to meet such needs as required as evidenced by employee performance and evaluations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

BSN required and/or Masters optional.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years experience, three of which are in nursing administration.

LICENSURE

Current licensure as a professional nurse in the State of Connecticut.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

MMR is required. Varivax (chicken pox vaccine) or evidence of prior chicken pox is required. Hepatitis B (or signed declination) is required for those with potential exposure to blood/body fluids.

Tdap and influenza vaccination are strongly encouraged.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents as well as external and internal applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by case basis.
