Overview
Under general supervision of the Tobacco Cessation Manager, this position involves planning, conducting, and evaluating a broad range of education programs for smoking cessation. The Tobacco Cessation Specialist will also use research-based and best practices information to develop health educational material and edit tobacco cessation curriculum in Vietnamese as needed. This position is also responsible for providing telephone counseling, individual counseling, and group counseling for adult and youth audiences for tobacco cessation. The Tobacco Cessation Specialist is responsible for transportation needed in the coordination of smoking cessation outreach and education, as well as fulfill management of documentation in compliance with the County of Orange Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program.
Vietnamese Tobacco Cessation Specialists will develop marketing strategies to promote services to Vietnamese populations in Orange County. They will also assist the Manager with departmental quality improvement projects, such as developing standards and protocols for program operations. Vietnamese specialist is also responsible for providing bedside counseling to all Vietnamese in-patients at ARMC, who want to quit smoking.
Responsibilities
Consistently apply infection control policies/practices.
Meet population specific competencies.
Attend department specific education/training, inservices, and staff meetings.
Participate in department specific performance improvement projects.
Collects, prepares, and plans educational programs through personal interviews, group meetings, and library research; conducts preliminary analysis of such data; develops program services.
Develops and disseminates public health education information; prepares Tobacco Cessation materials and activities; prepares informational materials to explain community services.
Researches most recent best practices in tobacco education for revision of tobacco cessation curriculum.
Plans, conducts, and evaluates smoking cessation classes and screenings when appropriate at designated local community locations; ensures materials, equipment, and facilities are arranged and set up accordingly.
Provides telephone cessation services to both adult and youth callers. Assures confidentiality of information to all participants and provides follow-ups to determine cessation success.
Identifies and catalogues community resources and leaders who will be useful in implementing health education programs within the various geographic areas.
Responsible for all data collection and reporting requirements established by the tobacco prevention and cessation program contract.
Maintain confidentiality of all records and information that pertains to patients, physicians, employees, the hospital, and its related interests.
Develops marketing plan for promotion of services to Korean communities in Orange County.
Helps in development of department operations and protocols.
Leads special quality improvement projects.
Conducts bedside counseling for all Korean in-patients at ARMC, who want to quit smoking.
Perform special projects or other related work as requested.
Qualifications
Bilingual \u2013 Vietnamese and English (read, write, speak)
Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Health Science or related field preferred
1 year clinical health care or health education experience preferred
Marketing experience preferred
Effective oral and written communication skills in Vietnamese and English
Demonstrates ability to provide individual and large group counseling sessions for all audiences
Competent in public speaking in Vietnamese and English
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Competent in project management
Ability to develop departmental operational systems and standards
Understanding of Vietnamese demographic makeup in Orange County
