General Summary:
The Admissions Representative serves as the coordination point for referring facilities, physicians, payors and families by coordinating all aspects of referral/admission process according to established protocol. The Admissions Representative is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital.
Patient Population:
Has contact with patients in a non-clinical setting; understands and demonstrates appropriate behavior when interacting with patients in the adult (18-65 years of age) and geriatric (65 and older) populations.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for all referral calls and handles each in a professional, enthusiastic manner; obtains all necessary demographic as well as clinical, financial, physician and family information at the point of referral to facilitate the assessment/approval process
Notifies assigned Clinical Liaison of referral in a timely manner and indicates the timeline within which the referring facility/physicians/family wants patient assessed and transferred.
Receives faxed or original evaluation pack from Clinical Liaisons; discusses patient evaluation with key staff as required if clinical questions arise which postpone feedback to referral sources.
Verifies financial information in a timely manner; works with Case Managers/payors as appropriate to obtain financial approval after level of care is determined; discusses financial criteria with key staff if questions arise which postpone feedback to referral sources.
Maintains daily referral/admission logs and prepares statistical reports, completes required documentation/tracking in an accurate, timely manner and distributes in a timely manner.
Coordinates and ensures eligibility and benefit verification and financial approval will be documented for all referrals to confirm financial viability of a possible admission and ensure the patient has sufficient benefits to cover their anticipated stay.Ensures that all required Admission and Registration documentation is completed in a timely manner.
The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position requirements are demonstrated through the successful completion of competencies established for the position, to include population served, and other special needs of patients or customers served by the department.
Adheres to LifeCare policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.
Regular attendance and timeliness is required.

Requirements
Supervision:
Does not direct or supervise the functions of the department.
Experience:
One to two years of health care office/clerical experience is required. Previous experience in intake, business development or managed care is preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
