We have an immediate opportunity for a Patient Care Assitant.
General Summary:
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) assists the Nursing Department in the care of patients. The PCA ensures that LifeCare Hospital’s philosophy, standards, policies, and procedures are met and maintained in a professional manner. The PCA is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital.
Patient Population:
Delivers direct patient care appropriate to the patients served. The ages of the patients served are adult (18-65 years of age) and geriatric (65 and older).
Essential Functions:
Provides patient care under the direction of the nursing staff in a competent and proficient manner. Assists nurses in identifying and responding to patient needs during rounds (e.g., personal needs, safety needs, etc.).
Ensures patient safety at all times by notifying the assigned nurse, or nursing supervisor, of any risk factors seen, initiating, and maintaining appropriate safety measures. Responds appropriately and assists others in emergency situations in a calm and effective manner.
Plans/organizes work for assigned shift to properly utilize time, resources, and supplies to ensure patient receives appropriate quality care.
Communicates patient status and changes in patient condition to the nurse and next shift for continuity of care.
Accurately completes and documents assignments (e.g., vital signs, blood glucose, meals, intake/output, etc.)
Maintains equipment; ensuring equipment is clean and in working order; assures supplies are adequate.
Adheres to LifeCare policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.
Regular attendance and timeliness is required.

Requirements
Experience:
Six to twelve months of experience in an acute clinical setting is preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Must have completed a formal nurse aide course, or hold a current Medical Assistant certification, or be enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing and must have documentation of basic fundamentals from the school, or be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing, or have completed LifeCare’s Patient Care Assistant on the job training program. Current BLS certification is required. All PCAs must maintain current certification, if required by State, and BLS certification while employed with LifeCare Hospitals.
