Degrees
There are two different types of degrees that you can obtain, a PsyD or PhD. With the first, you will have a stronger focus on the clinical parts of psychology. Then with the PhD, you will be learning more about the science of it. When studying to obtain a PhD, you will have to write a dissertation on unique research.

When you are studying for a PhD in psychology, you will be studying in school for between five and seven years. You will learn about research techniques and computer analyses. Those that have a bachelor's degree in this field reported making between $32,000 and $50,000 annually. Then psychologists that had a bachelor's degree reported making around $125,000 annually.
Career Fields
Some of the options you have working within psychology is to pursue a career as a school counselor, conducting administrative work, being a professor, opening a private practice, working for the government or devoting your time to research.
Compensation
The median wage percent of psychologists that work in schools, clinics and counseling was around $64,000 in 2008. The top 90 percent in working in these fields reported making more than $106,000 annually. The psychologists that work for industrial organizations reported making a median salary around $77,000, with the average being between $39,000 and $149,000. For the psychologists working in other areas reported making an average annual salary between $39,000 and $145,000.
