In plastic surgery you will be reconstructing, enhancing or removing parts of the body, such as the nose, fat, ears, cheekbones, breasts and buttocks, among other areas. There are two different forms of this field, body modification and reconstructive plastic surgery.
With reconstructive plastic surgery, you will be restoring form and functions in the body of patients that may have been somehow injured or damaged. For instance, you may provide procedures like breast reduction, removing scars caused by skin cancer or burns, cleft lip and hand surgery.
Plastic surgeons that provide body modification services to patients that would like to have their body altered. Some of the procedures provided in this area include breast lifts, liposuction, brow lifts, breast implants, face lifts, permanent makeup and facial implants.
In order to become a plastic surgeon, you will have to complete a minimum of five years of training in surgery. Then you will have to complete two years of training in the field of plastic surgery. You will have to be experienced and well trained in various forms of procedures, like tummy tucks and rhinoplasty.
The average annual salary for plastic surgeons is around $237,000 (with two years or less experience), people who have three years of experience or higher report to have an average annual salary around $412,000 a year. The overall average annual salary in America is around $318,000.
