As a pharmacist in pediatrics, you will have to become an expert in medications for children. This means that you will have to continuously evaluate new medicines that come out annually. It will also be required of you to go to conferences and partake in association groups.
As a pharmacist in pediatrics, you will have to teach nurses, doctors and other medical professionals about the latest medications in pediatrics; this is a very important role you have to play. For instance, you would be required to give advice for the properly choosing and administering different medication types.
Other tasks you may have to face as a pediatric pharmacist includes supervising the successful fulfillment of all new requests for medications. You may also be required to supervise employees that fill the order requests.
Providing counseling to patients and their parents to make sure that they are administering the medications properly is important. Giving quality checks is required to help prevent harmful drug interactions that could potentially take place.
You will have to have complete responsibility over the medication inventory. Monitoring, maintaining and obtaining the supplies of the pharmacy are another continuous responsibility of this position. Ensuring that everything is properly stored to make sure that they keep their potency and aren't expired is also required.
