You will try to stabilize the patients and transport them to the nearest hospital. A lot of folks are not looking forward to seeing you because they are injured and many folks don't like the idea of going to the hospital. You will need to make sure that the patient experience is as pleasant as possible.
Your first step is to introduce yourself when you meet the patients. You should also introduce them to your crew members. Patients like to know who is caring for them and it makes them feel more comfortable.
Make sure to treat the person like a real individual, make small talk. For instance, if you he or she had an accident at their business, you can ask them about their profession. Try to somehow connect with him or her to make them feel more at ease about the situation.
Keep talking to the patient until you reach the hospital, unless it is late and they need to rest. If they suffered from a head injury, you don't want to allow them to fall asleep because they could fall into a concussion.
You need to make sure that you stay up to date with your training. If you are a basic EMT, you should consider becoming an intermediate emergency medical technician. By continuously training, you will enhance your patient care skills more and more.
