Duties
As a practice manager, you will have to hire, supervise, evaluate, train and discipline the staff of the medical office, which includes the medical billers and coders and receptionists. In this field, you are also required to prepare bank deposits, ensure that the office is clean and develop reports of expenditures and income. The janitorial staff and maintenance staff is responsible for keeping the facility clean.
Time Frame
In most cases, medical practices are only in operation during the daytime, although some are open during the night and on weekends to work around patient work schedules.
Skills
To be a successful practice manager, you will have to have good written and oral communication skills. You will also have to be able to lead and develop people. Using spreadsheets, word processors, email and other software applications is also required.
Education
To get into this field, you will have to have a high school diploma or GED. You will need to have evidence of leadership skills and experience working at a doctor's practice. In some cases, a large medical practice require candidates to have a bachelor's degree in business or health administration.

The average salary for medical practice managers in December of 2009 was $62,000 annually.
