Wondering what the salary is for medical laboratory aides? Well, working as a medical laboratory assistant, you are required to operate equipment and prepare specimens of tissue or blood in order to test for diagnosis. The amount you are paid annually all depends on the amount of experience you have, your employer and your educational background.

Work Experience

The average salary for medical laboratory aides in December of 2009 who had less than four years of experience were reported making between $9.50 and $13.92 hourly, which equals out to between $19,760 and $28,953 annually (working 40 hours a week). Then those that had 20 years or more of working experience were making between $13.37 and $18.58 hourly, which comes out to between $27,809 and $38,646 annually.



Education

The medical laboratory assistants that have an associates degree in Applied Science reported having the highest pay possible at $15.66 hourly. The lowest reported salary was $10 hourly. Those that had a certificate in phlebotomy had a higher wage starting off at $12.38 hourly.

Employer Type

The medical lab aides that worked for non-profit organizations reports an average hourly salary between $11.10 and $17.00. Then those that were reported working in hospitals were making between $11.80 and $15.22 hourly. The medical lab assistants that were working for corporations and companies were reported making between $11.26 and $14.64.

Geography

Those that were making the most lived in California and Massachusetts, with maximum hourly salaries between $17.87 and $17.84. Washington and Michigan were also noted for having high paid assistants.

Benefits

Along with the wages you receive as a medical lab assistant, you will also receive benefits. Some reported having between 1.1 and 2.9 weeks worth of paid vacation annually with bonuses between $350 and $500. Paid holidays and sick leave were also reported. Life insurance and disability insurance, and 401K retirement plans were also reported.
