As a patient relations rep, you will be working as the middle person between hospitals and families. You will help to answer questions that involve concerns about the hospital and their policies and the rights that patients have. Working as a patient relations representative, your goal is work with the patient in mind.

Purpose

The purpose of patient relations reps is to build a link between hospitals, patients and their families. Your main goal is to resolve any problems that arise and act as a mediator for the care and treatments that are being provided by the hospital to the patient.



Patient Duties

In this health care field, you will have to work with patients and care for them. Some of the duties you would have to perform include responding to the needs of patients in a timely manner, resolving issues and recommending ways to better care for patients to the hospital and keep files confidential.

Education

To enter into any health care position, you will need to undergo medical training. You will first need to obtain a high school diploma or a GED. Then once you do that, you can begin training with your employer. Most employers want patient relations representatives to already have experience in their field, along with CPR skills.

Skills

Some of the skills that you will need to have include good communication and people skills, especially since you will be working a lot as a liaison between medical institutions and individuals and families. You should also be able to handle stressful situations and be mature emotionally.

Salary

The salary of this profession is between $35,000 and $45,000. With 20 or more years of experience, you could make up to $60,000. Of course, what you make all depends on where you live, who you work for and your work experience.
