Individuals are able to take a stress test in order to help identify and diagnose CAD, or coronary artery disease. This is a very common type of heart disease, says the Centers for Disease Control, also known as the CDC.

The goal is to have this disease diagnosed early on, so testing is required. This helps to prevent cardiac arrest and heart attacks. Treatments can be given quickly to reduce these chances, once detected. ACLS, or advanced cardiac life support, is what's used by medical care professionals in hope of saving the lives of individuals that are having cardiac arrest.

Obtaining ACLS Certification

When studying ACLS, you will see that you will have to learn a variety of things, like CPR, medications, electric shock and advanced airways, which are all used for saving lives of victims of cardiac arrest. ACLS is available to health care professions, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, nurse practitioners and a variety of other highly skilled health care professionals.

Types of Stress Tests

One form of a stress test is physical exercises, which helps to monitor heart and vital signed of patients. Any signs of abnormality can be detected. Some use treadmills and recumbent bikes. Another form of stress tests is the radioactive tracer, which is used to enhance abnormal heart blood flow. Last, there is echocardiology, which is a combo of pharmacologic stress testing, or exercise, which uses sound waves that create images of the heart. This allows physicians to see the beating heart of patients, giving them a good view of its structure.

Stress Test Guidelines

When stress tests are provided, they are used to determine the cause of chest pain, diagnosis of CAD and to assist with the identification of rhythm disturbances. Those that have a higher risk for CAD are individuals who have a medical history of myocardial infraction, also known as MI or a heart attack.
