Prescription Filling
As a pharmacy technologist, you will be obtain prescriptions that must be corresponded with proper medications and dispensed in the specified amounts and dosage that has been prescribed.
Compounding
Working in pharmacy technology, you will have to compound different types of medications, including ointments and creams. You will be using a compound machine or other manual tools like a pestle or mortar.
Sterile Technique
In this field, you will also be responsible for keeping track of inventory. Pharmacy techs are required to use computers or manually keep track of the medical inventory in the pharmacy they are working for. They are required to order new medications, rotate stock and manage a variety of aspects involving the drug inventory.
Verification
It is important that the pharmacy tech verifies that the prescription information is indeed accurate before filling the prescription. Pharmacy technicians are also required to ensure that there are no errors or contradictions, and if any are found, they must be presented to the physician or pharmacist before the medication is given to the patient.
