As an internal medicine doctor, you are trained to simplify complicated diagnoses for patients that are having multiple types of symptoms.
Subspecialties
If you wanted to, you could focus on a specific concentration of internal medicine, like cardiology. With cardiology training, you will need to spend another two to three years in school.
Consultants
Another form of internal medicine involves consultations. As an internist that has a focus on consultants, you would focus on diagnosing health problems.
Internist vs. Interns
Some people may get confused with the term internist and may think that it means intern, but these two aren't the same at all. An internist is an individual that is getting trained in the medical field, after graduation from medical school. They are also sometimes known as medical internal doctors, internists and general internists.
