As a meat inspector you are required to ensure that farm animals have proper hygienic settings. You are also required to make sure that diseases are detected and monitored for treatment.
Education
To become a meat inspector you are required to teach livestock workers about animal disease control, how to eliminate safety hazards and disease preventative training.
Meat Inspection
When working in the meat inspecting field as a veterinarian, you are required to inspect meat and poultry for diseases. If you encounter any meat that is diseased, you will have to properly dispose of it, while maintaining clean and sanitary procedures. You will also have to ensure that the meat isn't exposed to harmful chemicals or drugs. Ensuring that all meat is properly labeled is another task of a vet that works in meat inspection.
Condemnation
In the meat inspection industry, meat inspectors are able to condemn carcasses, live animals and meat products that are found unfit for human consumption. In most cases, the condemned meat is made into greases, oils and fat. Sometimes they are used as feed or fertilizer. In other cases, the condemned meat is burned.
Disease Outbreaks
Infectious disease outbreaks that result from human consumption is to be investigated by veterinarian meat inspectors. During your investigation, it will likely lead you back to the farm where the livestock originated. Then special measures must be taken to control the outbreak.
