Department of Defense and Veteran Awards given to medical/surgical manufacturers
BD; Retractable Technologies, Inc.; and Sage Products, Inc. have been named the 2007 champions of the first U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Veteran Awards (VA) for healthcare-product data quality. The awards are given to medical/surgical manufacturers who adhere to certain data-quality specifications that eventually contribute to internal-data synchronization programs at the DoD and VA. The DoD and VA recognized eight leading manufacturers. The champion designation is awarded to manufacturers who adhere to the most-stringent criteria. The leader designation is given manufacturers who exceed data-quality requirements at the item level in terms of coverage, completeness of packaging, and frequency of updates. The DoD introduced the product-data synchronization program in 2003 to develop supply chains and decrease costs to better support war efforts. The VA joined the data-synchronization efforts through DoD/VA Joint Incentive Funding.
