- The general rule of thum: the average adult requires 1 ounce of sunscreen for adequate total body coverage. Children require about half this amount.
- Sunscreen needs to be absorbed by the skin to work properly and does not effectively work when applied to we skin.
- Keep babies younger than 6 months out of the sun.
- Sunscreen should be reapplied every few hours, even if the product is waterproof.
- Limit your time in the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Stay in the shade as much as possible.
- Protect the eyes with sunglasses, cover the skin with loose cotton clothing and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
- Use a "broad spectrum" sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 15 to protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays.
