When you're working as a patient care technician, you will be under the management of physicians and nurses. Your roles is to provide medical care to patients.
Types of Skills Needed
To work in this health care field, you will need to have good people skills, especially since you will be working with patients, their family members and other medical professionals. You are trained for easy medical procedures to assist physicians and nurses with patient care.
Caring for Patients
As a patient care tech, you will be required to assist patients on a different levels, such as helping them to eat, clean their bodies and move about. You are also required to help to monitor their conditions and vital signs. During exams and operations, you are required to assist physicians and nurses.
Other Duties
Besides helping with patient care, patient care techs are required to keep the rooms of patients clean and sterilized. Running errands, making calls and answering phones, changing bed linen and doing a variety of other tasks like setting up the exam rooms with supplies is also required.
Being a companion to the patients that they are caring for is another task. This consists of playing games, going for walks and listening to patient stories. Educating the patients about treatment and their condition and how to properly care for themselves when they go back home are other duties.
