First thing you will need to be is dependable. If you aren't, this isn't the right field to get into. To become a good home health aide, being dependable is one of the vital characteristics you must obtain. Try not to be late too often and if you happen to be running behind, make sure to get in touch with the patient. If you have an emergency keeping you from getting to the patient, call the agency you work for.
Make sure that you have access to reliable transportation, whether it's your own car or public transportation. It is important that you are able to get to your patients' homes in a timely manner.
You must be discreet while you're working within the homes of your patient. Be respectful of their privacy while you're doing your health aide duties. The patient doesn't want to feel like you're barging into their lives or residences.
Make sure that you have great communication skills. You will have a lot of interaction on a daily basis with your patients, so you will need to be able to listen attentively when they are expressing themselves.
