Preparation
There is a study guide that you can purchase and review that's called the SNA Emporium (call 1-800-728-0728).
Prerequisites
To get a school nutrition certificate, you will need to obtain an associate's degree and a minimum of one year's experience working within a school in the field of nutrition (this must take place within the last five years). Then you will need to obtain an additional 30 key area college credit hours that are related in the necessary field. If you have work experience, you can substitute it for the credits (one year equals ten credit hours).
Renewal
Once you get your school nutrition certification, you will have to renew it after it expires. A reminder is mailed to you three months before it is set to expire.
Fees
All of the fees to obtain and renew the school nutrition certificate is up to the applicant to pay for.
Application
You can find the exam application within the Credentialing Exam Handbook; it also covers a variety of other related resources. You can find this at the SNA Service Center or can be downloaded at this website, www.schoolnutrtion.org.
