Step One: Knowing what you'll be tested for will help you to determine what you need to study. You will need to find out what will be on the examination beforehand. The NCLEX PN is a multiple test exam, so there is only one right answer to choose from. In most cases, the examination is given in a hotel that's been created especially for taking tests. The test is given on a computer, while being supervised.
Step Two: Knowing what will be covered in the exam will also help you to prepare. The NCLEX PN exam covers areas that pertain to the nursing classes that you've taken, including the human anatomy, chemistry, medication administration and pharmacology. If the subject wasn't directly taught in your classes, you won't be tested on it. Make sure to study your notes and read through your textbooks before you take the exam.
Step Three: Find out how the NCLEX PN is graded. It is known for starting out with questions that are on a medium level and easy to answer. If you get the easy questions wrong, you will be taken to easier questions. Then if you are getting the harder questions correct, the exam will test you on even harder questions. It's important that you pace yourself. Also, don't take too much time on any one question. Instead of being graded on a total score, you are graded on a pass fail basis.
Step Four: Study in a group setting. The way to becoming a licensed practical nurse requires everyone to pass the NCLEX. To beat this, try forming a study group or website blog that is aimed for passing the exam. As a group, you can gather together weekly to study for the state licensing exam.
Step Five: Consider taking a preparation course. Through a prep course, you will get a chance to get a better understanding on the nursing exam. To get better focus on the subject, look for instructors that have a specific background in the nursing field and the structure of the NCLEX PN test. Some prep courses can last only a few hours and others may take up to several weeks to complete.
