To become a consultant in health care, it is required that you obtain a bachelor's degree in healthcare management. There are some employers who may want you to also have a degree in medical discipline, like nursing, as well as a master's degree in health care management.
Qualifications
Many employers may have mandatory requirements that all applicants have several years of experience in a healthcare business or clinic as a nurse, manager or medical biller and coder. It is also sometimes preferred that applicants have experience working in a clinical or hospital setting.
Responsibilities
The main responsibility of a healthcare consultant is working directly with medical executives or hospital executives. Your job would be to help them develop better healthcare services overall. This includes creating budgets, bettering processes and systems, and bringing in more medical professionals to the organization.
Certification
Job opportunities are more abundant for those who have certifications in multiple areas of the medical field, like as a CPC, or Certified Professional Coder, or other certificates that are offered by the American Institute of Health Care Professionals.
Salary
The median salary for healthcare consultants for 2010 is said to be around $80,000 annually. The salary you receive all depends on the area you live in and the amount of certificates and experience you hold.
