Laziness by itself is not illness, unless it is the extreme form as mentioned earlier. It may just be a habit. It can be a symptom of some ailment, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome etc. In some cases it is an attitude problem. It can be a result of intense work or stress. This is how the body reacts to stress and gets rest to recuperate itself. You must poke the embers to get the flame going again.
Frustration can also cause laziness. A person whose ideas are constantly ignored may stop thinking altogether. Or take for instance a child who has language production dysfunction may not be able to express his or her thoughts and may give up. Such people have output failure.

The more you laze without doing anything, the more you will fall into the trap of laziness. The best way to get out of it is to do some exercise to boost your energy levels.
When your daily routine becomes monotony, you become lazy. Turn to some hobby, or call up your friend to spend some time with him or take up some volunteering work nearer to your heart. Or seek out people who support your ideas, encourage your success and understand you as a person.
If you compare yourself with others, you may be able to get out of laziness. This exercise makes you realize that your peers have left you far behind and gone much ahead of you. Then your esteem will be hurt. And your declining spirits may get a spur.
You may have motivation or the drive to accomplish a particular task, it may not be enough. Strong mind and good mental discipline alone will ensure that you will complete what you have taken up. Very often your mistakes drive you into laziness. It is not wrong to admit your mistakes and make amends. It is shameful if you do not correct the course of your life when it faults.
