Very often ''career'' and ''job'' are used as synonyms. But there is a subtle difference between the two words. Career means advancement through life or simply a profession, Job means a piece of work which fetches you some money.

You can take up any job to earn a few chips for a temporary period. Here your likes and dislikes won’t come to the picture. Your basic urge is earn just money and nothing else.

Career implies your ambitions and dreams. When you are to choose a career you naturally think beyond earning money. You debate whether you like it or not or whether that is dear to your heart.

Medicine is the most rewarding and satisfying career. So when the question of making medicine as a career crops up, you think of its nobility and the social status it gives you. It gives you the satisfaction of serving the humanity at large. How gratifying it will be to think that you will be rescuing the sick and the suffering. People put you on a pedestal. This is enough to force you go in for medicine as your career.

Before sticking to your choice, you must be prepared for dedicated hard work and that too for a long period. Your study does not end with getting the degree. You have to study all your life. Besides, you must know that your life will not be like anyone else’s. Socializing will be beyond your reach. You must accept the fact that the time at your disposal is entirely for your patients. Besides all this emotional sentiment, you must have an aptitude and love for the subject and enviable passion for the profession.

Now you select a first class school of medicine which will give the first rate preparation to make you a good physician or a surgeon and a real friend of the people.
