Columbia University Medical Center (Columbia) has chosen Allscripts as its electronic health record provider to aid Columbia’s outpatient physician group and planned community-based Independent Practice Association. The web-based Electronic Health Record from Allscripts will mechanize all routine clinical tasks such as prescribing medications and documenting patient visits, while electronically connecting physicians, residents, and support staff. The alliance is touted as the largest in Allscripts’ history and is considered to be a fine example of the company’s leadership among the nation’s top academic medical centers. Columbia University Medical Center offers world-class leadership in scientific research and patient care, and it’s College of Physicians and Surgeons is regularly ranked as one of the top medical schools in the nation.
Myriad Genetics, Inc. launches awareness campaign for women with breast cancer
Myriad Genetics, Inc. has launched an all-inclusive public awareness advertising campaign titled the BRACAnalysis® Awareness Campaign. The campaign is aimed at women with a family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer, as well as at the healthcare providers that treat them. This campaign seeks to urge women with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer to contact their physicians to learn more about the risk of developing cancer and the actions they can adopt to reduce risk. “The purpose of the BRACAnalysis public awareness campaign is to save lives,” said Gregory C. Critchfield, M.D., president of Myriad Genetic Laboratories, Inc. The campaign is being carried out across the Northeast, and involves physician education and outreach, consumer education, and public relations, while the advertising component is primarily confined to four areas, namely Boston, Hartford, Providence, and New York City.
CHD Meridian Healthcare names two to the management team
CHD Meridian Healthcare, an I-trax, Inc. company and a renowned provider of workplace healthcare, has promoted Susan Ware, RN, to vice president of on-site operations and April Lannom to vice president of information technology operations. Ware will form part of the team headed by senior vice president of on-site operations Pamela Dulaney, RN. The on-site operations include the management of occupational, primary care, and corporate healthcare activities to ensure efficient operation of each workplace health center. Ware joined CHD Meridian in 1999 and brings 25 years of nursing experience to the company. With more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry, Lannom will be responsible for all IT functions for the company, including applications and systems management.
