Phillip Calvin McGraw was born in 1950 in Oklahoma. He earned his B.A. from Midwestern State University. Since earning his M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from North Texas State University, Dr. Phil has made guest appearances on shows such as Oprah, written six New York Times bestsellers, and hosted his own talk show entitled Dr. Phil.
Dr. Phil is also known for founding the nonprofit organization The Dr. Phil Foundation, which is a program that helps children and families at risk.
Throughout his career, Dr. Phil has helped people dealing with issues such as domestic violence, child abuse, depression, racism, substance abuse, obesity, marital issues, and other health issues. His "get-real" tactics have helped many recognize their unhealthy behaviors and better themselves.
Now in its fifth season, Dr. Phil is the second-highest-rated daytime talk show in the nation. It is so popular that Sesame Street even introduced a "Dr. Feel" puppet in his honor, which helps other Sesame Street characters talk about their feelings.
Dr. Phil begins each show with his trademark one-fingered wave to his wife of more than 30 years, Robin. Robin can be spotted frequently on her husband's show as a guest host. She has lent advice during the "Ask Dr. Phil and Robin" segment that is featured repeatedly on the show.
Dr. Phil and Robin have two sons, Jay and Jordan, and reside in Los Angeles, California.
